A True Story

A chef travelling south through Africa arrived in Malawi. He decided to head for the huge fresh water lake after which the country is named.

"As I made my way down the shores of Lake Malawi, I watched the local fishermen ply their trade - catching pilchard-like Kapenta. This fish, dried under the African sun, is the staple food of these proud descendants of the Ngoni tribe. While men are out fishing on the lake, the women concoct their magnificent Malawi Gold - a thick golden sauce prepared in a handbeaten copper wok over an open fire, to which the men's fresh fish is added."
After a number of glorious days swimming in the lake, admiring the tropical fish and basking in the African sunshine learning about the Ngoni people, our chef knew he had to reluctantly continue on his travels.
